THE ONE TRUSTED AT THE THRESHOLD
Shiva is the destroyer, the god who will one day dance the universe to its close. The being trusted to sit at his door is not an army and not a weapon. It is a bull, at rest.
To guard the threshold of the destroyer, you do not need to be fierce. You need to be immovable — and that is a rarer thing.
THE FIRST DEVOTEE
Nandi is the foremost of the ganas, the chief of Shiva’s attendants, and in many tellings his closest companion and gatekeeper. Where Shiva goes, Nandi follows; where Shiva sits, Nandi waits outside.
His is devotion so complete it stopped being an act and became a form — strength that no longer has anything to prove.
WHY HE FACES THE GOD
In the temple, Nandi always faces the sanctum, his eyes fixed on the shrine within. Worshippers stop at him first, whisper their wishes into his ear, and trust him to carry them inward to the god.
He does not patrol. He does not threaten. He watches, with the kind of attention that never lapses because it has nowhere else it would rather be.
STHIRA — STILLNESS AS STRENGTH
Sthira means steady, firm, unmoving. It is the quality the yogis ask for before anything else — a seat so stable the rest of the practice can rest on it.
Movement proves nothing. Strength that must be demonstrated is not yet strength. The gate is kept by the one who stays.
