SHE LOOKED BACK.
They sent a man with a mirror, because no one could meet her eyes. One eye is all the shirt shows. It is looking back. On the back, half a face rises out of the dark — the stare, a crack running through it, one streak of ember beside it. On the chest, the coil of the serpents, and a single lit eye.
The Story
She was not born a monster. She was made one at the altar.
Medusa served in Athena's temple. Poseidon found her there. The goddess punished the one who was wronged: the hair became serpents, the gaze became a verdict, and whoever met it turned to stone.
So she was sent to the edge of the world, and every story after was about the men who came for her. Perseus did not look at her. He walked backwards, watching her reflection in a polished shield, and took her head while she slept. The goddess who had cursed her wore that face on her armour from then on.
The back carries half her face rising out of the dark — one eye, wide and fixed, a crack running down through the cheek, a single streak of ember beside it. The front carries the serpents in motion, white against black, and one lit eye.
Cut for women who were punished for what was done to them. She was never the monster. She was the one who looked back.
