ONE FACE. TWO FATES.
Half of her keeps the warmth of the living. Half of her stopped counting a long time ago. The threshold mark rests over the heart. The truth is on the back — a queen who was always two people, and never apologized for either.
The Story
SHE DOES NOT HIDE THE OTHER HALF.
The old sources describe her plainly, the way no other god was described: one side of her face keeps the color of the living. The other side does not. Hollow, already gone — worn on the same skull, in the same breath, with no attempt to reconcile the two.
Every other death-power in the old stories arrives to collect. Hel does not arrive. She waits at the bottom of the nine worlds, in a hall built for those who died the wrong way — not in battle, not remembered, just ended — and she keeps them. Not cruelly. Not kindly. She simply keeps what was given to her, the way a ledger keeps a debt.
She is Loki's daughter, and she inherited the family trait: nothing about her resolves into one thing. Queen and corpse. Warm and cold. The half of her that could still love someone, and the half that stopped counting the days.
The chest carries the mark of the threshold — the line you cross once, and do not cross back. The back carries her face, undivided by choice.
