LIGHTER THAN THE FEATHER
Egypt did not ask whether you lived well. It asked whether your heart was light. In the hall of judgment, Anubis sets the heart of the dead against the feather of Ma'at. Balance it, and the road goes on. Tip it, and Ammit is already waiting. The back carries that reckoning: Anubis standing between two slabs of red, the scales held out beside him. The front holds his head in profile — the one who keeps the count.
The Story
Egypt built its whole afterlife around a single moment on a scale.
When the body failed, the dead were led into the Hall of Two Truths. There the heart — kept in the body through every stage of embalming because it, not the brain, was thought to hold the record of a life — was lifted onto a balance. On the other pan lay a single ostrich feather: Ma'at, the measure of truth and order.
Anubis worked the scale. Jackal-headed, older in the role than Osiris himself, he was the one who steadied the beam and read it true, while Thoth stood ready to write the verdict. A heart light as the feather meant a life lived in balance, and the soul passed on toward the Field of Reeds. A heart heavier than the feather was set down in front of Ammit — part crocodile, part lion, part hippopotamus — and eaten. That was the end. No underworld, no return, nothing.
The ankh is the counterweight to all of it — the sign the Egyptians drew for life that does not stop. It was never handed out freely. It was what the scale decided you had earned.

Machine wash cold, inside out, with similar colours. Do not bleach. Do not tumble dry. Iron on reverse if needed. The fabric softens with each wash but holds its form.
