The Maya looked down as well as up. Beneath the world of the living lay Xibalba, the Place of Fear, ruled by twelve lords of death. The Popol Vuh tells how two brothers, the Hero Twins, went down into it and broke them.
The Mayan Legacy collection at Neolithic Store puts seven of those stories on oversized tees, and two symbols in bronze. This is every piece, and the story behind each.
The tees
Camazotz, House of Bats, ₹1,999
In Xibalba there is a house that is only darkness and sound. Camazotz, Death Bat, ruled it. His name is two Kʼicheʼ Maya words with nothing soft between them: kame, death, and sotz, bat. The Hero Twins had one rule for the night: stay sealed inside the blowguns and do not look out until dawn. Near morning, Hunahpu looked. Camazotz took his head before the head knew it was gone.

Ah Puch, Lord of Mitnal, ₹2,299
Every house of Xibalba served one master. Beneath the bats, the blades and the twelve thrones lay Mitnal, the lowest level, and Ah Puch, the god of death itself. Where the other lords governed a trial, he governed what all trials lead to: decay, the absolute end. His owl watches for those whose time has come. Fire burns where his eyes should be.

Xbalanque, The Jaguar, ₹2,299
Hunahpu is remembered for rising as the sun. It was his brother Xbalanque who got him there. The quieter twin, the strategist. When Camazotz took his brother’s head, Xbalanque did not panic. He carved a replacement from a squash to fool the lords of Xibalba, and worked through the night to bring the real head back. He rises here from a pile of skulls beneath a cracked moon, in gold, blood-stained armour.

Vucub Caquix, ₹2,299
Before the true sun rose, something else sat in its place. Vucub Caquix, Seven Macaw, perched above the first age covered in jewels, with teeth of gems and eyes of silver, and declared himself the sun and the moon in one body. The Hero Twins saw a thing pretending to be light. They shot him from his tree and stripped him of his jewels. The macaw fell. The real sun rose.

The First Creation, Popol Vuh Deer, ₹2,299
In the beginning there was only sky and sea. The Forefathers, Tepeu and Gucumatz, sat in the dark and thought the world into being with words. The earth rose from the water. Then they spoke again: let there be deer. It is one of the earliest moments in the Popol Vuh, the creation epic of the Kʼicheʼ Maya. The ancient pottery that recorded it now lives on the chest.

Yaxché, The Bleeding Ceiba, ₹2,299
The sacred Ceiba was not merely a tree. In Maya cosmology it was the axis of the universe. Its roots descended through the layers of the earth into Xibalba, its trunk stood in the world of the living, and its branches reached the sky. Here it runs with red sap, roots in the underworld, across the back. Part of The Underworld Series.

Hand of Xibalba, ₹1,899
In the Maya cosmos, the boundary between the living and Xibalba was not a wall. It was the ground beneath your feet. The lords of the underworld did not wait for the dead to arrive. They reached. The design is a skeletal hand adorned with the ceremonial bands of the death realm, Maya glyphs carved into every bone, rising through stone on the back.

The pendants
The pendants are cast in solid bronze and finished by hand with an antique patina. Bronze deepens with time and with the warmth of the body that wears it, so no two pieces age the same way.
Camazotz, The Death Bat Pendant, ₹7,299
The bat-god of the cave and of night, at the passage between life and death. He is not cruelty. He is the threshold itself, the dark crossing every bloodline must one day make. Approx. 42mm, 32g.

Fabric, fit and care
Every Mayan Legacy tee is cut oversized, in 100% bio-washed cotton, with a crew neck and short sleeves, in sizes S to 4XL. Machine wash at 30°C. Weights differ by design. 240 GSM: Camazotz, Ah Puch, Xbalanque, Vucub Caquix, The First Creation, Yaxché and Hand of Xibalba. Cotton at 190 GSM or lower works better for overlock knit and a good yarn count: the seams sit flatter and the fabric feels finer.
